Sherlock Holmes (2009)

Sherlock Holmes (2009) — So this movie won’t go down in the annals of film history as a cinematic masterwork or anything but it managed to satisfy what I expect of a Sherlock Holmes movie as well as what I expect of a Guy Ritchie movie (minus the Brit-rock soundtrack, due to the Victorian setting).  Robert Downey Jr. is awesome, but we’re at the point now where saying “Robert Downey Jr.” and “awesome” is redundant.  Jude Law is good, better than anything I’ve seen him in recently.  Mark Strong continues to be a badass.  Guy Ritchie’s style translates well to Victorian England even though the whole thing has a very modern feel to it.  I find the people who have been saying they didn’t like this movie are mostly the people who didn’t like Snatch, Rocknrolla, or Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, so it’s really just a question of taste I think.
