Radioland Murders (1994)

Radioland Murders (1994) — Silly silly stuff. I remember I saw this many years ago and enjoyed it back then so I decided to check it out when it came on HBO. I did enjoy it and I did laugh a lot, but truthfully I think a few glasses of wine had something to do with that. I do like the zany madcap behind-the-scenes look at an old-time radio drama to the point where the whole murder mystery plot seemed a bit unnecessary. There is some amusing slapstick but the part I prefer is the quick-witted dialogue. Unfortunately the lead actor Brian Benben seriously overplays his role. The whole movie has an over-the-top style going on but his performance is the only one that really bugged me. This film does actually have a great cast of respectable character actors like Ned Beatty, Stephen Tobolowsky, Jeffrey Tambor, Larry Miller, Michael Lerner, Dylan Baker, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, and a few other people who aren’t household names but are instantly recognizable. All in all i think the film has more good than bad but is best watched on HBO or something where you don’t have to pay for it.
