La Femme Nikita (1990)

La Femme Nikita (1990) — So there’s a new TV series (the second) based on this movie which made me think “I haven’t seen it in a few years” so I decided to re-watch it.  It’s still good though not, in my humble opinion, as Luc Besson’s next two films Leon and The Fifth Element.  It’s one of those action movies that’s more about character than action.  That can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you’re in the mood for, but all in all I think it makes it a stronger film.  There are some points I would character as plot holes.  There are several points when the organization that fakes girls’ deaths, abducts them, and turns them into assassins (under threat of death) seems almost surprised that they encounter resistance from said abducted girls.  You’d think they’d be slightly more prepared if they’re such an organized outfit, but whatever.  This movie also has Jean Reno in a role that only last for a few violent psychopathically awesome minutes that lay the groundwork for his later role in Léon.  I can see why this a movie that has been remade (as Point of No Return) and made into two separate TV series. It’s got a lot going for it and it’s just fun to watch.
