Assassination of a High School President (2008)

Assassination of a High School President (2008) — Want to see a gritty film noir set against the backdrop of high school? Then skip this piece of shit and go see Brick. Perhaps it’s an unfair comparison because Brick was a drama and this movie is ostensibly a comedy, but I think the two made me laugh about the same number of times. The difference is I cared about the characters in Brick. But movies should be evaluated on their own merits and not compared to other films. So here’s why this movie sucks… Jokes that are funny maybe once are repeated ad nauseum. The film is dedicated to making every character such a “type” that they have no real depth to speak of. The story is about a wannabe high school journalist who is assigned a puff piece about the student body president (who is never assassinated [unless you count character assassination], rendering the title stupid). He discovers a link to the recent theft of SAT tests from the principal’s office, which is bullshit I think because aren’t the SATs administered by the College Board? Bruce Willis plays the crazy veteran principal. He’s one of those aforementioned one-dimensional characters (also a lame repeating joke). Mischa Barton is the femme fatale. Actually I’m tired of talking about this stupid movie. I don’t want to waste any more time writing about it so don’t waste any time watching it.
