Biutiful (2010)
Biutiful (2010) — So I was going to write a full article on this movie for 12ftdwende.com, but honestly I don’t have 1000 words worth of thoughts on it. I was underwhelmed and quite frankly bored through most of it. I really liked Alejandro González Iñárritu’s last two movies, 21 Grams and Babel, so I guess maybe I was just expecting more from this. It’s not without its moments of emotion or inventive visuals but mostly it just feels like it drags. Javier Bardem is a great actor and I have no real problems with his performance (though it falls well short of many of his previous roles in movie like Before Night Falls) it’s just that as a movie I don’t feel there is enough there. I’m sure there are people who wildly disagree with me (Cannes and Oscar voters among them) but I just didn’t like it. I ended up not writing my article because after two and a half hours this movie took up enough of my time already.
