Chloe (2009)

Chloe (2009) — So there’s a line between “legitimate erotic thriller” and “exploitative skin flick.” Some movies walk that line while others fall over it. All in all I rather liked this one. Julianne Moore plays Catharine, a woman convinced her husband (Liam Neeson) is cheating on her with one of his many college-age students. She hires a prostitute, the titular Chloe (Amanda Seyfried), to “make herself available” to him to see what she does. Chloe reports back with descriptive accounts of steamy encounters, which oddly enough seem to actually arouse Catharine. Of course, from her opening voice-over, we know that there’s more to Chloe than meets the eye. Is she scamming Catherine for money or is there something even more twisted going on? Under Atom Egoyan’s direction, Chloe manages to stay a legitimate erotic thriller without ever seeming like something that would only be on Cinemax after midnight. Moore’s insecurity and suspicion plays well against Neeson’s frustration, and Seyfried is compelling as the enigmatic title character (also she gets naked a bunch). Anyway this movie is worth checking out.
