American: The Bill Hicks Story (2009)

American: The Bill Hicks Story (2010) – You know sometimes there are comics who transcend the role of comedian and enter on to a level where I would call them prophets. George Carlin was one. At time, I think Bill Hicks was one. Bill Hicks is not as well-known as other comics (including Dennis Leary who has been accused of ripping off part of his act) largely because he died young of pancreatic cancer at the age of 32. This documentary is about his life. It covers how his childhood shaped him as a person and his drive to be successful. It cover the controversial topics he discussed in his stand-up and the many substances he abused. It’s an interesting look at an interesting man.
