The Craft (1996)

The Craft (1996) — Meh. I’m not sure if this actually qualifies as a horror movie or a non-comedic version of Mean Girls with magic… A group of four “teenage” girls (Fairuza Balk, the very cute Robin Tunney, Neve Campbell and the then-30 Rachel True) start their own coven or whatever and have fun doing crazy magic shit until it stops being fun because Fairuza Balk clearly goes insane. While a somewhat normal “outcast” teenage girlat the start of the movie, the more evil or whatever she gets the cartoon-y and over-the-top she gets. Also apparently Rachel True and Neve Campbell are considered total outcasts because True’s black and Campbell has burn scars that are not-at-all visisble when she is clothed. Not that high school guys are particularly mature or anything but I think they’re capable of overlooking those things when cuteness is involved. Anyway this movie just kind of kept going for an hour and a half. Nothing about was particularly horrible but nothing struck me as especially good either. Then again maybe this movie is aimed at teenage girls and I’m not supposed to “get it.” Or maybe it’s just mediocre. Either way: meh.
