The Rock (1996)

The Rock (1996) — Maybe it’s because I saw it when I was 11 and have always reverted to that mindset, but I fucking love this movie. It hits every note that an action movie should hit. [Plus it has conspiracy theories, which I was really into as a kid]. Beyond the stars (Nic Cage, Sean Connery & Ed Harris) this film is filled with several reliable character actors like David Morse, John C. McGinley, Tony Todd, Michael Biehn, William Forsythe, and the late John Spencer. This is by far the greatest thing Michael Bay has ever done and the main reason I refuse to completely dismiss him as a film-maker (even after the debacle that was Pearl Harbor). There’s awesome action sequence after awesome action sequence and just enough story to make you care. Plus the San Francisco scenes always make me go “hey, I know where that is!” which isn’t really an indicator of great film-making but just a personal thing I enjoy…
